A New Jersey woman who relied on an oxygen tank died after her electricity was cut off—despite several warnings from her family to supplier Public Service Enterprise Group (PSEG), according to reports.

Linda Daniels, 68, died after suffering heart failure at her home in Newark, New Jersey—several hours after the electricity was cut around 10 a.m. on July 5, reports NJ.com.

Her family said Daniels, who used an electric-powered oxygen tank as a result of congestive heart failure, had struggled to breathe at the home on a day where temperatures had reached around 90° F.

"We put one ice pack here by her side and one on the other side. We were fanning her. It was so hot in here, she couldn't breathe—it was unbearable," her daughter, Desiree Washington, told WABC.

The 68-year-old, who family says remained “in good spirits” depended on an oxygen tank powered by electricity to breathe. Daniels died an hour after the medical team departed. According to CBS 46, Daniels’ two children and granddaughter say they don’t know why PSEG cut off Daniels’ electricity .

The family of Linda Daniels said they sat with the ailing woman in her sweltering home for hours after her electric -powered oxygen tank and air conditioning stopped working around 10 a.m. last Thursday, NJ.com. “We asked them, ‘Why are you turning off her electric at the pole?'”

Daniels was able to use a smaller, reserve tank after the electricity was cut off, but the family were forced to call emergency services when that ran out of oxygen. Paramedics eventually arrived at the home with another portable unit for the 68-year-old, all while the family were calling PSEG to get them to turn the power back on.

"She had just paid $500 two days before,” Washington said. "And she's a senior. We asked them, 'Why are you turning off her electric at the pole?'

“We made numerous calls. We have a large family and everyone in our family was calling. They told us they would be rolling a truck. The truck did not come until the next day."

A woman in hospice care died just hours after PSEG cut off the power to her house in New Jersey because of an overdue bill. The woman relied on an oxygen tank powered by electricity to breathe.

A 68-year-old New Jersey grandmother died last week after a company shut off her electricity because of an overdue bill -- which cut off the oxygen tank she relied on to keep breathing, a family member said.

PSEG said in a statement that the power was cut from Daniels' home due to “lack of payment over several months."

Jim Namiotka, a company spokesman, said: "As part of our policy, PSEG had notified this customer numerous times that their account was in arrears and that they would be scheduled for a service termination unless the account was made current.

"We are reviewing our records to determine what transpired. We encourage customers who have medical issues to contact us so that we can note their circumstances on their accounts.”

The company added that the family had “not notified us of any medical circumstances in the home.”

The family deny PSEG’s claims that Daniels was behind with her payments. According to ABC 13, $300 was sent in April, with a second payment of $450 made a month later and $500 was sent on July 3, two days before the power was cut off.

Power was eventually restored to the family on July 6, the day after Daniels died.
