Some Democrats have accused Obama of not doing enough to promote the party, but several people close to the ex-president told Politico he is in an all-hands-on-deck mode for 2020, resulting in at least 10 meetings at his Washington, D.C., office with potential presidential contenders.

The sit-downs have been casual, according to the sources, focusing mainly on how the potential candidates should counteract and respond to President Trump’s combative rhetoric.

“I think it’s great that he’s meeting with people who are interested in the future of the country and the party,” one of the sources said.

Some of the meetings have been requested by Democratic hopefuls, while others have come to fruition because Obama has kept in touch with the attendants since leaving office. The latter category includes Biden and Holder, both of whom worked in his administration.

A spokesperson for Obama did not return a request for comment.
