Footage of the April 12 incident shows a group of heavily camouflaged men lying beneath a fallen tree branch on a rural Kansas property while patiently waiting for a turkey to appear.

A loud crack echoes across the morning air as one of the men screams out in pain and hunches forward.

The others in the group immediately realise he's been shot and yell out to warn the gunman, who later told police he mistook the group for a turkey, Kansas.com reports.

The shooter was taken into custody for further questioning.
