HP's EliteBooks pack mics on both sides for clearer Skyping

HP's EliteBooks pack mics on both sides for clearer Skyping Laptop updates are no longer confined to boring iterative improvements year after year. The so-called world-facing mic is actually a microphone on the outside of the laptop's lid, and can be used in two modes. When you're in conferencing mode and the people around you are also participants in your call, the outside mic can better pick up their voices. In individual mode, the extra mic can be used for noise cancellation, making for stronger projection of your voice. It's not just for Skype calls, either, since the feature is managed by HP's built-in Noise Cancellation software and is meant for "PC calls".

The visual grunt work comes courtesy of an Nvidia GeForce MX150 2GB GDDR5 GPU, and will provide extra performance for gaming and GPU-intensive tasks and certainly a boost over the Intel UHD cards found in ultrabook counterparts. ASUS says it's the world's thinnest laptop with a discrete GPU, and it'll no doubt play a role in bumping the brand's sales of gaming machines, which Asus expects to increase by 33 percent this year.

Intel will bring 5G to laptops in 2019 .
5G will be a key part of the company's "Always Connected" PC plans. To give us an idea of what 5G will look like in a laptop, Intel will also be showing off a 2-in-1 concept at Mobile World Congress next week. There aren't too many details about that device yet, but Intel says it'll demonstrate the power of 5G by streaming live video. Perhaps we'll see them running multiple 4K streams at once -- something the company has demonstrated on desktops over the last few years.
