While Fittler’s squad has impressed Origin fans, there has been a sentiment about this year’s crop being lucky with the Maroons missing Smith along with fellow Origin mainstays Johnathan Thurston and Cooper Cronk.

"Whatever I was doing I just amped it up [with Smith's retirement] because when Cameron’s there there’s a level of focus you always need because he can have the type of game that breaks you down quite easily if you’re not on your game,” Fittler said.

“Obviously Queensland have fallen behind somewhere.”

Fittler’s Blues will aim to finish off the job tonight as they aim to secure their first Origin sweep since 2000.
