Australia’s World Cup campaign has been given a promising yet surprising endorsement ahead of their opening match against France this weekend.

Davey the ‘psychic’ quokka at Wildlife Sydney Zoo is Australia’s answer to Paul the Octopus and has correctly predicted the outcome of past Federal elections and other major sporting events.

Given the options of Denmark, France, Peru and Australia, World Cup broadcaster Optus Sport got Davey to pick which team would progress out of the Socceroos' group in Russia.

Achilles the cat trains mind and body for role as World Cup psychic Like many soccer fans trying to predict the results of the World Cup, Achilles is busy studying the teams heading to Russia this month for the sport's biggest global showdown. But he has one advantage: cat sense. The furry white feline, who lives in St Petersburg's Hermitage museum, is being touted as a cat psychic who will predict the winners and losers of the tournament kicking off in Russia in two weeks.

After some tentative sniffing, Davey picked the Socceroos to finish top of their group, before moving on to France.

Though the small marsupial’s prediction is perhaps on the more optimistic side, he happily munched on the Australian bowl of grass, which is hopefully a good omen for the Socceroos.

Denmark were afraid of Socceroos, says Bert van Marwijk .
Australia had to settle for a draw against Denmark and can count themselves unlucky.Though the Danes struck after just seven minutes, the Socceroos grew into the game and benefited from the VAR as Mile Jedinak pulled them level from the spot.
