In his first game since being axed from his Queensland duties, Broncos skipper Darius Boyd responded with purpose, scoring his side’s first try to go with some creative touches against Melbourne on Sunday.

Spotting the cameras in his sights, Boyd flaunted the letters ‘KW’ on his wrist strapping, prompting viewers at home to suggest he may be sending a message to his former Origin coach.

“Kayla and Willow, my wife and daughter,” Boyd explained with a smile after the game.

“If you have a look it’s on their every week.”

Asked in jest if he is aware KW is also coach Walters’ initials, Boyd replied: “I’m aware of that now but it’s there every week, Kayla and Willow are my wife and daughter.

“You guys will talk what you want to talk but it’s a reference to my family.”

‘’It might be Kerrod,’’ Walters laughed in reference to his brother.

Roaming all corners of the field, the veteran fullback was getting his hands dirty, first through a brilliant blind side play that was put to bed by Cheyse Blair before dashing down the field with a brilliant kick return on the stroke of half-time.

‘’I’ve spoken to Darius about that. We just think at the moment Darius isn’t quite at the level where he knows he should be,’’ Walters said on Monday.

‘’If Darius can get back up to where the great Darius Boyd has been for Queensland, he’ll get himself back into this side and I had that conversation with him yesterday.

‘’I did see a little bit of talk around him going on holidays and all that. It had nothing to do with that.’’
