Former Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting will become the face of Channel Seven's new cricket broadcast deal after signing a lucrative deal with the television network.

Ponting will go head-to-head with former Australian teammate Adam Gilchrist who recently signed with Fox Sports after the pair previously featured in Channel Ten's Big Bash League coverage.

The 43-year-old who signed a multi-million dollar deal with the network was in line for the Australian cricket coaching job before Cricket Australia decided to go with Justin Langer for the role.

The moves comes after Seven and Fox Sports partnered up in a joint $1.2 billion broadcasting deal to take the cricket broadcast rights off Channel Nine and Channel Ten.
