St Kilda defender Dylan Roberton has been taken to the Epworth Hospital after collapsing behind play during the second quarter of the clash at GMHBA Stadium against Geelong.

The 26-year-old staggered before falling on the half-back flank as the umpire prepared to throw the ball up in the centre of the ground.

His teammates immediately noticed he had gone to ground and ran to check on him as the doctor made his way to Roberton's side.

Roberton was able to get to his feet unaided but he left the ground and went up the race to be checked out.

He was then taken to hospital to be examined with Fox Footy reporting tests were being done on his heart.
