Former Fremantle Dockers player Shane Yarran has been acquitted of attacking a man with a broken bottle outside a Perth pub, but still has a legal fight ahead for a separate criminal charge.

The ex-footballer had been charged with unlawful wounding over an incident outside the Westfield Tavern in Camillo in July 2015.

He was due to stand trial in Perth Magistrates Court but was acquitted after police prosecutors conceded there was no prospect of a conviction.

76% of audited Caltex franchises found to be underpaying workers Caltex has defended its attempts to stamp out wage underpayment after Fair Work found more than three-quarters of outlets it inspected were exploiting workers. Only six of 25 retail fuel outlet sites operated by 23 Caltex franchisees in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide inspected by the FWO were found to be complying with workplace laws. This represented a non-compliance rate of 76 per cent.

Yarran was also awarded costs of $5500.

Defence counsel Luka Margaretic suggested the complainant was opportunistic, pointing out they hadn't come forward until long after Yarran had been drafted to the AFL club and started making a name for himself nationally.

Mr Margaretic foreshadowed in June the case may collapse.

He told AAP on Wednesday the charge had had massive ramifications for his client's career, forcing him to take personal leave from the club and triggering a methamphetamine addiction.

"He went off the rails," Mr Margaretic said.

"He was in a really good place until this matter came forward."

The barrister said the AFL Players' Association had been helping Yarran with his rehabilitation.

"Meth is an absolute scourge. People need help to get off it," Mr Margaretic said.

The 28-year-old had been keeping fit and aimed to get back on the field with a WAFL club but at his age, returning to AFL football was highly unlikely, the barrister said.

"That dream is gone for him, unfortunately."

Yarran still faces an attempted aggravated home burglary with intent charge, which is listed for mention in the Armadale Courthouse on April 6.

His barrister says that matter should also fall away.

"He's indicated very firmly he's at a loss what that relates to," Mr Margaretic said.

"He's pretty confident he wasn't there and will provide an alibi."

Yarran was last year jailed for six months for nine offences including fleeing police after a wild car chase.

The pursuit ended with him jumping out of the moving vehicle, which rolled across four lanes, and being found by a police dog while hiding in bushes.

It was the second time behind bars for Yarran, who was jailed in 2013 for burglary.
