Former Test opener Chris Rogers has been appointed as a high performance coach by Cricket Australia.

Rogers' brief will be to develop the country's next generation of star batsmen at CA's National Cricket Centre in Brisbane.

The 40-year-old has held several roles with CA since his international retirement in 2015 but this job is his first foray into full-time coaching.

A prolific run-scorer at first-class level in Australia and England before starring on the Test scene late in his career, Rogers is regarded as one of the finest batting technicians in the country.

Rogers, who played 25 Tests, was one of the best batsmen of his time in the Sheffield Shield but it was not until the twilight of his career that he was given an extended chance in the baggy green.

The opener made 2015 runs at 42.85 and was an important player in the Michael Clarke-led Australian team which whitewashed England in the 2013/14 Ashes and reclaimed the number one Test ranking four years ago.
