Michael Cheika ' s Wallabies faltered one too many times this year . Just a year and a half out from the Rugby World Cup, is it time for a head coaching change?

Consider this: Australia came within five minutes of winning their first Bledisloe Cup since 2002 this year, but also lost twice to Scotland with an aggregate scoreline of 77-43.

With the season now over - and with less than 24 months until the next World Cup - when do the knives come out for Wallabies coach Michael Cheika?

Scotland were far more ruthless, far smarter and, most alarmingly, beat the Aussies at their own run-and-gun game.

They haven't lost to Australia since their questionable defeat in the 2015 World Cup quarter-finals - nor have England, who have now beaten the Wallabies five times in a row.

Rita Ora made an appearance on 'The Voice' Germany and no one knew who she was

Rita Ora made an appearance on 'The Voice' Germany and no one knew who she was Rita Ora did a blind audition on The Voice of Germany and none of the coaches recognised her. In case you didn’t know, Rita Ora has been a coach on The Voice UK, when she was part of the judging line-up, along with will.i.am, Tom Jones and Ricky Wilson, in 2015.Anyway, earlier this year, Rita decided to pull a little cross-promo ~prank~ by doing a blind audition on The Voice of Germany. It seemed like a good idea, and she had a pretty sweet chance of turning the German coaches’ chairs around, since she sang her song “Your Song,” which is a top 20 hit in the country.

There’s no doubting Cheika is a good coach. He has won a World Rugby Coach of the Year award, a Rugby Championship, made a World Cup Final and has an impressive provincial record, but recent evidence suggest his time as Wallabies boss may be up.

When it comes to coaches, inconsistent performances, especially from teams as good as Australia, are usually ominous red flags. Cheika may not have lost the locker room, but what he's saying is not cutting through each week as it should be.

For perspective, we have not seen this level of disfunction since the end of Ewen McKenzie's reign.

Cheika under investigation after box rant

Cheika under investigation after box rant Michael Cheika faces a nervous wait to learn if he will face punishment following his coaching box outburst during the defeat to England at Twickenham. An enraged Cheika appeared to be captured by TV cameras saying 'f---ing cheats' after skipper Michael Hooper's hotly-debated try was disallowed for offside by the TMO during the first half of the 30-6 loss to Eddie Jones' side.Cheika was also embroiled in a heated discussion with an England fan as he left the coaching box and walked down towards the touchline to rearrange his side following the sin-binning of Kurtley Beale just before halftime.

A time marred by on and off-field ill-discipline, and an ugly scandal which forced McKenzie out, 2014 was the last time the Wallabies had fewer wins in a year.

Less than 12 months later, the Victorian fell on his sword. Is Cheika in a similar danger - or will he even jump before then?

“I know it didn’t go well for us today…I’m really proud of the team,” Cheika said, perhaps bizarrely, post-match against Scotland, a week after a fiery media encounter with a journalist after the loss to England.

Perhaps Cheika should’ve done better to learn from his experiences both on and off the field from one week to the next. The toothless team on the pitch in a 30-8 loss to England certainly resembled that which produced the most recent result.

In contrast, ex-Wallabies head coach Eddie Jones, World Rugby’s most recent recipient of Coach of the Year, made sure his England side’s victory over his former team convincingly buried their lackluster 21-8 win over Argentina.

Wallabies coach Michael Cheika fires up post match. Cheika ’ s mood will not have improved with the news that lock Adam Coleman and flanker Ned Hanigan are on their way home from Australia’s end-of- year European tour because of injuries.

This used to be a characteristic of a Cheika-coached Australia when he was fresh to the post. A 41-13 loss to New Zealand in the 2015 Bledisloe was put to bed by a seven-match win streak, removing any Wallabies-related doubts.

That sort of venom still courses through the veins of Chieka’s men, but it may take another man to re-find it.

Where the road becomes windier is in the fact the Wallabeis have few, if any, replacements ready to go.

Attack coach Stephen Larkham shapes as the most likely replcaement, but is he enough of a departure from the old regime?

Leicester head coach Matt O'Connor may be available given the magnitude of the offer, but even the Queensland Reds did not see enough to offer him their last opening.

Could it perhaps be a quote from Jones that saves any sword-sharpening for his old Randwick teammate?

“They’re probably the form team in the world at the moment,” Jones said ahead of his side’s encounter with Chieka’s.

“There’s some really good coaching. Their selection has been good, their defence is very good and their set piece is strong.

“He’s rebuilt that side twice now which is a fair effort and he’s done a great job.”

Jones may speak the truth, but will it be enough to save Cheika from the offseason chop? Does he have another squad ruild in him?

These questions and more must be answered before Rugby Australia progress into their final full year ahead of the next World Cup.

The last time they replaced a head coach was around a similar proximity to the next Cup that we’re at now. One way or another, a tough decision needs to be made, and it needs to be made now.
