With the discussion on marriage equality leading us towards an upcoming postal vote I thought I’d use my 15 minutes of fame from Australian Survivor to weigh in on the issue. And in speaking out I undoubtedly turned to the Australian Survivor cast to grab their thoughts. After all, I lived on an island with many of these people where we spent hours upon hours strategising, playing “who am I?” and talking about food (we really were starving).

Sports Sunday panellist Peter FitzSimons has put his support behind the marriage equality campaign on the same day Wallabies star Israel Folau voiced his opposition to it. 

Speaking on Wide World of Sports' 5 Minutes with Fitzy segment, the former Wallaby congratulated the NRL for backing the 'Yes' campaign. 

"I like the NRL saying, 'We're an inclusive code'," FitzSimons said.

"Ian Roberts writing to them, Todd Greenberg writing back saying, 'Yes, NRL, we're inclusive, that's our prime value, we stand for inclusiveness, we are for same-sex marriage.'

FitzSimons' comments come on the same day Wallabies fullback Folau tweeted his opinion on the topic as the nation begins voting in the postal plebiscite on same-sex marriage.

“I love and respect all people for who they are and their opinions,” Folau said.

“But personally, I will not support gay marriage.”
