Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy has explained why he signed Manly discard Nate Myles, likening him to the club’s Origin debutant Tim Glasby.

Myles completed a mid-season switch from the Sea Eagles to the Storm in a move questioned by many, given the veteran prop’s average form at Manly.

“In the same week Tim was picked for Origin, we have signed Nate Myles. They play the same position and their qualities are pretty similar,” Bellamy wrote in his weekly column for The Australian.

“Nate has a few injury issues, but our medical staff don’t think there are any that will stop him playing a good second half of the season, and return to his best form.

“He has an elbow injury now but gives us insurance for the rest of the year because we’ve lost Christian Welch (knee) for the season and Jordan McLean (cheekbone) is out for up to six weeks.

“Nate is someone with a huge amount of experience, who can play long minutes. That will help our younger guys at the tail end of the season.”

Myles hopes to make his Storm debut against the Roosters in Adelaide on Saturday night, but the elbow injury may sideline him for at least another week.
