Date set for Mayweather McGregor bout? The much-hyped fight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather continues to edge closer to reality, with Mayweather Promotions reportedly planning to go to the Nevada State Athletic Commission to request a date for the bout. ESPN’s Dan Rafael is reporting Mayweather’s organisation will request August 26 as the date for the fight. Conor McGregor will be contractually prohibited from “going rogue” and elbowing or kicking Floyd Mayweather in their highly lucrative Aug. 26 boxing match.

Ultimate Fighting Championship star McGregor will take on Mayweather, boxing’s former pound-for-pound king, in the ring at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena after months of back and forth between the protagonists.

Everything about the event will be boxing-centric, from the regulations regarding glove sizes, to the length and number of rounds, to the undercard for the event.

Some have speculated that Mayweather’s silky boxing skills will frustrate the Irishman to the point of distraction and that he will not be able to resist throwing elbows, aiming kicks or attempting takedown moves, as he is allowed to in MMA.

Mayweather v McGregor confirmed

1/19 Mayweather v McGregor : In numbers. Kicking in boxing is strictly forbidden , but UFC president revealed that even an attempted swing of the leg from the Irishman would result in a lawsuit as per the terms of their contract .

According to USA Today, the fight contract expressly forbids McGregor from kicking , or using his elbows, against Mayweather . Of course, McGregor is a Mixed Martial Arts fighter. Using his feet, shins, knees, and elbows, is natural for McGregor .

“There is no way that will happen,” UFC President Dana White said, on a Wednesday evening conference call. “That is absolutely in the contract, No.1.

“No. 2 this is a boxing match under the rules of the Nevada State Athletic Commission. When you talk about a guy like Floyd Mayweather — the lawsuit if that ever happened ... you all know how much Conor likes money. Conor would depart with a whole lot of money if that ever happened.”

A key component of the agreement, which was put together quickly by Mayweather’s chief adviser Al Haymon, the UFC and pay per view distributor Showtime, was Mayweather’s insistence on the use of purely boxing regulations, rather than some hybrid arrangement that allowed McGregor to utilize some of his MMA tactics.

While Showtime hopes for a longer and more entertaining undercard than that which was arranged for Mayweather’s 2015 victory over Manny Pacquiao, White confirmed that there will be no UFC element to the show.

Showtime’s Stephen Espinoza disputed the notion that boxing’s reputation would take a huge hit if McGregor was able to record a stunning upset.

“This is like NASCAR v. Formula One,” Espinoza said. “This is a competition between Floyd and Conor. It is not a referendum on boxing and MMA.”

Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor must not have looked at the calendar when they slated their megafight for August 27 (AEST) in Las Vegas. T-Mobile Arena, the year-old indoor venue right on the Las Vegas strip, is already booked for that date for the championship game of the BIG3 basketball league co-founded by rapper and actor Ice Cube. But as we all know about this fight, there’s plenty of money involved. And if a chunk of that cash is pushed toward the BIG3, it would be willing to change venues. © PA Wire/PA Images Image of Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather Jnr.
