Dane Gagai has confirmed he will be leaving the Newcastle Knights at the end of 2017. 

Gagai informed Knights officials he will be leaving the club at the end of this season on the same day he was selected to play for Queensland in Origin I on May 31.

The star outside back has been linked with a move to the Rabbitohs, however no official announcement on the 26-year-old’s next club has been made by his management.

“We are obviously disappointed that Dane has decided to leave the club, but we respect the decision he has made with his family,” Knights chief executive Matt Gidley said via a club statement on Monday.

“Dane has been a wonderful player and ambassador for our club over the six years he has been with us.

“He will leave at season’s end with our best wishes for the future.”

Gagai played 116 games for Newcastle after joining the club in 2012.

Rabbitohs deal no distraction for Gagai .
