Morten Jorgensen, 53, had been out of work for about two years when he decided to take matters into his own hands, the Northern Star reported.

Standing outside household hardware chain Bunnings Warehouse in Ballina, New South Wales, Mr Jorgensen held a sign that read "I need work pls [sic]".

The man stood outside the store for several weeks from around 6am to 10am each day hoping that local tradies would take notice and hire him.

Mr Jorgensen's ploy paid off when he was finally offered work by a company called Northern Rivers Fencing.

The Northern Rivers Fencing Facebook post attracted over 1000 likes and hundreds of comments from people praising Mr Jorgensen for his efforts.

"Well done to you Morton and good luck for lots of work to come your way," one user wrote.

"Good on ya Morton. You'll be fine and something long term will come your way. It always does for people who have a go!" said another.

It hasn't been confirmed if Mr Jorgensen's new job is a full-time gig.
