Gmail finally turns addresses and phone numbers into links

Gmail finally turns addresses and phone numbers into links Next time someone emails you an address, you no longer have to copypaste it on Maps after viewing it on Gmail or Inbox. Addresses and phone numbers will appear as hyperlinks whether you're using Android and iOS on mobile or the web on your computer. You won't be able to make calls, but you can launch Google Maps and start a new email on your PC with a single click. We've tested the feature and can confirm that it's now active, but if it doesn't work for you yet, don't worry: Google says it could take up to three days to roll it out completely.

No, it’s not just you: Google appears to be suffering a massive meltdown . Numerous users are flocking to report experiencing issues using its services, including Maps , Search, Gmail , Drive and YouTube .

For some, Google services went down altogether, while others suffered intermittent outages. The episode was brief. We tried to reach the company by Gmail , but that service was down at the time, too.

Both DownDetector and Outage Report are indicating that the company is struggling with server downtime across the board.

Google is bringing video reviews to Google Maps

Google is bringing video reviews to Google Maps We're still very far away from real-time Google Street View or satellite imagery on Google Maps, but Google is, for the first time, introducing video in parts of its mapping service. While the company quietly launched this feature for Local Guides about two weeks ago, Google is now also notifying them about it via email and will likely release it publicly in the near future.

According to the outage heat map, it appears that users in the American East Coast, Central Europe and Japan are most severely affected.

Google is improving Street View with better cameras and AI

Google is improving Street View with better cameras and AI A decade and 80 billion photos since the launch of Google’s Street View program, the company is now revamping its mapping vehicles with all-new camera systems and AI to capture even better imagery of pretty much every publicly accessible space on the planet. An obvious benefit of the new system, which includes eight new cameras and was rolled out last month, is prettier pictures in Street View with sharper details and more vibrant colors.

If google .com is down for us too there is nothing you can do except waiting. Probably the server is overloaded, down or unreachable because of a network problem, outage or a website maintenance is in progress Is Google .com down for you right now?

The company has indicated it is experiencing issues with Drive on its official status page, but is yet to confirm the issue extends to its other services.

Interestingly, the YouTube support team is currently addressing the outage with Russian and Portuguese users on Twitter.

Here are a couple of tweets:

Olá Erich! Compartilhe mais informações sobre o problema e um print screen, assim entenderemos melhor o situação. Nos mantenha informados!

— Team YouTube (@TeamYouTube)

Gmail seems to have also confirmed the outage on its Twitter account:

The Maps support team has similarly begun addressing the outage on Twitter:

Hi Johnathan. We're aware of this issue and our team is working on a fix. Appreciate your patience.

— Google Maps (@googlemaps)

As of now, it remains unclear what is causing the outage, but we have reached out to the Big G and will update this post accordingly if we hear back.

Update: Meanwhile, it appears that Google is not the only company experiencing downtime. Amazon Web Services and GitHub are also seemingly struggling with technical difficulties at the moment – though we’re not certain whether the events are connected.

Update 2: According to posters on Hacker News, the outage is so bad that, if you load Search without caching, the Google logo won’t even show. Now this is what I call a rare occurrence.

Update 3: The Mountain View heavyweight has finally confirmed the partial server downtime on its status page:
