Google is improving Street View with better cameras and AI A decade and 80 billion photos since the launch of Google’s Street View program, the company is now revamping its mapping vehicles with all-new camera systems and AI to capture even better imagery of pretty much every publicly accessible space on the planet. An obvious benefit of the new system, which includes eight new cameras and was rolled out last month, is prettier pictures in Street View with sharper details and more vibrant colors.

The company has indicated it is experiencing issues with Drive on its official status page, but is yet to confirm the issue extends to its other services.

Interestingly, the YouTube support team is currently addressing the outage with Russian and Portuguese users on Twitter.

Here are a couple of tweets:

Olá Erich! Compartilhe mais informações sobre o problema e um print screen, assim entenderemos melhor o situação. Nos mantenha informados!

— Team YouTube (@TeamYouTube)

Gmail seems to have also confirmed the outage on its Twitter account:

The Maps support team has similarly begun addressing the outage on Twitter:

Hi Johnathan. We're aware of this issue and our team is working on a fix. Appreciate your patience.

As of now, it remains unclear what is causing the outage, but we have reached out to the Big G and will update this post accordingly if we hear back.

Update: Meanwhile, it appears that Google is not the only company experiencing downtime. Amazon Web Services and GitHub are also seemingly struggling with technical difficulties at the moment – though we’re not certain whether the events are connected.

Update 2: According to posters on Hacker News, the outage is so bad that, if you load Search without caching, the Google logo won’t even show. Now this is what I call a rare occurrence.

Update 3: The Mountain View heavyweight has finally confirmed the partial server downtime on its status page:

Gmail finally turns addresses and phone numbers into links .
Next time someone emails you an address, you no longer have to copypaste it on Maps after viewing it on Gmail or Inbox. Addresses and phone numbers will appear as hyperlinks whether you're using Android and iOS on mobile or the web on your computer. You won't be able to make calls, but you can launch Google Maps and start a new email on your PC with a single click. We've tested the feature and can confirm that it's now active, but if it doesn't work for you yet, don't worry: Google says it could take up to three days to roll it out completely.
