However, the new Duchess of Sussex was perfectly at home with Queen Elizabeth II, with the pair even navigating a potentially awkward car moment with royal aplomb.

After arriving at Runcorn Station in Cheshire on Thursday, the royal duo was ushered to a car waiting to whisk them away to their first official duty.

Approaching the vehicle, Meghan appeared to hesitate, seemingly unsure as to who should get in first. After all, you can't just call "shotgun" when you're with the Queen of England.

While plenty of media outlets were quick to label this moment of uncertainty as an etiquette bungle on Meghan's part, Her Majesty was visibly unbothered.

“You go first,” she told the newlywed Duchess, who responded, “Oh, okay" before climbing into the back seat.

It's understandable that Meghan should still need some guidance when it comes to royal appearances; after all, she's only officially been part of the family for a month now.

At Trooping the Colour on Saturday, Prince Harry could be seen gently prompting his wife when it was time to curtsy for the Queen.

Footage of the event captured Meghan whispering, "Do it?" and Harry responding, "Now", seconds before they curtsied and bowed.
