The TODAY Show's Sylvia Jeffreys has called out an Australian magazine for publishing fake news.

The newsreader slammed New Idea for its story which claims she and husband Peter Stefanovic are having marriage issues.

"Today’s offering from the "Fabricated Stories Based on Unflattering Papparazzi Photos" file," the 32-year-old wrote on Instagram.

The post continued, "Why no byline @newideamagazine ? # itsanextensivefile".

Jeffreys included the 'poo' emoji with her comment.

Alongside the caption was a photograph used in the magazine of her and Stefanovic looking rather serious.

The magazine's headline read, "New Relationship Hell" saying the couple is "far from the throes of newlywed bliss".

Jeffreys' post quickly generated close to 3000 likes, and more than 300 comments – some from her Channel Nine colleagues.

A tongue-in-cheek Leila McKinnon wrote, "Youse look fab to me, soz about the marriage though".

While Wendy Kingston also commented with the poo emoji, saying "but the sunnies look fab xx"

Even Karl Stefanovic's girlfriend, Jasmine Yarbrough, chimed in.

"Hahaha it’s just so bad!!" Yarbrough's comment read.

"Don’t worry love Our marriage is apparently off as well. Maybe we should move in together?"

Jeffreys and Stefanovic married in April last year during an intimate gathering in the Kangaroo Valley, in New South Wales.

The outpouring of support from Jeffreys' Instagram family today would surely put a smile on their faces.

Hopefully the happily married couple can now have a laugh at the magazine's expense.
