Unfortunately for the potential lovebirds, they now have the Oldfields to put them off relationships entirely.

Not because of the much-hyped tension between the married pair, but because of the sheer sense of boredom emanating from their every pore.

During their first full-length episode on the show's South African set, David and Lisa Oldfield managed to sound like … well …. an old married couple.

Ten’s opening segment featuring the Oldfields settling into the camp was notable only for its complete and utter lack of entertainment. The chatter was so mundane (with contestants muttering over the top of each other) it was remarkable only for the decision by producers to put it to air.

It was almost as though the long-married couple had politely arrived at someone else’s house.

“I’m impressed how tidy you guys have kept it,” Lisa Oldfield said of the camp setting, to no one in particular.

Her husband inquired about the toilet facilities and protocol for using them at night.

(After their first night on set, someone needs to start the hashtag #cottonwoolballs).

“Remember David and Lisa have already been watching the celebrities and sizing them up, so they have a huuuge advantage,” Brown said, clearly hoping his huuuuuge pay cheque will sufficiently make up for the amount of tripe he is uttering on air.

The new intruders on the Network Ten show were delivered into camp in large boxes stamped “Mr” and “Mrs”.

There were squeals of delight between Real Housewives alumni Jackie Gillies and Lisa Oldfield when Oldfield stepped out of her box. (Clearly neither woman can believe they’ve been given another crack on television … and neither can we).

David Oldfield was greeted with handshakes although camp leader Shannon Noll looked distinctly unimpressed to see the cofounder of One Nation.

Campmate Josh Gibson later said David Oldfield would need to “look out” if he showed signs of any racism.

British butler Paul Burrell may know how to fold a handkerchief, pour a cup of tea and polish every piece of family silver, but that man has absolutely no idea how to swim.

Boxer Danny Green stepped in to teach him and before long, Burrell was awkwardly dog paddling in the jungle lagoon.

“I was a little scared … to take my feet off the floor and trust somebody with my life. It was quite something,” said a breathless Burrell.

Green later described Burrell as “an honorary Aussie” because of the friendship the pair had developed.

“The butler of the royal family, you know, my goodness me - what’s going to happen here, will he be up his own backside?” Green recalled about meeting Burrell.

“It turns out you are the complete opposite,” Green told his newfound friend. “You have had an incredible life … but you are a regular knockabout bloke”.

Comedian Peter Rawsthorn showed off his tough side by completing a solo challenge in a five-metre tank, which was rapidly being filled with water - and reptiles.

He swam against rising water pressure to get stars (for meals for his campmates) while encountering frogs, crocodiles and pythons.

Shannon Noll reveals he lost Australian Idol fortune

Shannon Noll reveals he lost Australian Idol fortune Shannon Noll made a lot of money following his rise to fame, but he lost it trying to keep his family out of debt following the loss of his dad.Speaking privately with fellow campmate Fiona O'Loughlin on I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, the singer-songwriter remembered his dad who died of a brain injury after a farming accident.

Rawsthorn’s remarkably calm demeanour throughout the challenge left the hosts stunned and clearly he couldn’t quite believe it either.

Afterwards, he told his campmates bluntly: “There was a s---load of snakes”.

Such is life in the reality television jungle.
