Looks like Meghan Markle was just one short step away from becoming an iconic figure in Hollywood. According to the Mirror, the 36-year-old star was said to be shortlisted as Daniel Craig's next Bond girl but her blossoming romance with Prince Harry ruled her out of the line-up.

The team behind the 25th Bond movie had reportedly shortlisted Markle for the role of a bond girl after being impressed with her work on the show Suits . The James Bond execs had supposedly been on the hunt for an American actress who was on the brink of their big break—a rising star, if you will—and, for them, Markle fit the bill.

Why 007 producers were interested in Meghan Markle as Daniel Craig's next Bond girl Baywatch star Ilfenesh Hadera, 32, was also shortlisted to play Daniel Craig's love interest in the upcoming 007 film.According to The Sun, the producers thought Markle, 36, "fits the role of a Bond girl perfectly" as she was "glamorous and sexy and a good actress". The producers shortlisted Markle for the role as she was seen as a rising star but was later removed from the line-up as they assumed she would not be interested in playing a Bond girl after her relationship with Prince Harry was made public.

Having impressed producers with her work as Rachel Zane on "Suits", they were eyeing Markle for a role they wanted played by a glamorous actress who could become one of Daniel Craig's love interests in the upcoming " Bond 25", which is set for release in 2019. According to a report from The Sun (via Page Six), Bond producers had eyed "Suits" alum Meghan Markle to play 007's love interest in Daniel Craig's final Bond film. They say the 36-year-old future royal was on "the shortlist " to play the next Bond girl , along with "Baywatch" star Ilfenesh Hadera, 32.

It is claimed that she reached one of the final shortlists, along with Ilfenesh Hadera who was eventually cast as the Bond girl (who you may recognise from the Baywatch reboot with Zac Efron and Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson).

The reason why Markle ultimately missed out on the role is due to her ending her acting career to focus on her future royal duties, as the spouse of Prince Harry—though it's noted that her increasingly public figure was beginning to get in the way of the casting team's request for a 'rising star', rather than someone the whole world would recognise.

Another factor that may have prevented Markle from accepting the role is that towards the end of her time on Suits , she began to question the necessity of nudity in her scenes.
