The EDM duo shared a video on their Twitter page of their visit, which included an interview where Alex Pall made a joke about being unwilling to bring his dog to China.

In the now-deleted video, the interviewer asks Chainsmokers member Alex Pall if he brings his dog on tours with him.

"I mean if she could come anywhere I'd bring her to well I don't know if I'd bring her to China," he said before he, fellow group member Drew Taggart and the interviewer shared a laugh.

After social media exploded with backlash, the 'Closer' artists wer forced to issue an apology, which Alex Pall posted on his Twitter account on Monday (local time).

"I made a comment in an interview about being hesitant to bring my dog, Cheddar, to China, because I have read reports about dogs being slaughtered in certain provinces," he wrote.

"We originally posted a video to share how much we love China and our fans there. We would never intentionally do anything to upset our fans and we apologize if we offended anyone."

He continued: "Anyone who wants to help prevent the slaughter of dogs please visit http://www.stopyulinforever.org".

Twitter users have remained predominantly unimpressed by the apology.
