She was tragically diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in October 2016. And Emmerdale star Leah Bracknell , 53, has now revealed her targeted biological therapy has stopped working and she is surviving solely on 'alternative treatments '.

Ex-soap star Leah Bracknell has told fans her cancer treatment has stopped working.

But the actress – given a terminal diagnosis last October – says she is still determined to find a cure.

Leah, who played Zoe Tate in Emmerdale , had been told there was no treatment for her disease in Britain so raised money for pioneering immunotherapy in Germany.

Then she discovered her Chinese genes made her compatible for a clinical trial of targeted biological therapy. She started NHS treatment here at the end of 2016.

But now the 53-year-old mum of two has learned the drug has failed.

Leah’s partner Jez Hughes told supporters on her crowdfunding page: “We have found out the drug definitely isn’t working so she has been off this for a while while we find out the next steps.

“We think it probably stopped working back in March or even before. So for the last five months she has been prospering solely on the alternative treatments.

“This is due to your incredible support as these aren’t cheap. So we are so grateful for the opportunity to keep Leah strong and well. We really believe it is working.”

Leah has regular sessions in an infrared sauna and has also been using plant-based healing oils. Jez said they will now go back to their plan for treatment in Germany but may have some therapy here too. Supporters have put £64,000 towards it.

Leah’s positive attitude has been inspirational – even after the setback.

She posted a photo of herself smiling and happy on a beach, saying: “Thank you so much for your love and support.

“I truly feel it envelop me and feel humbled and so blessed and grateful.

“It is magic and divine medicine, its power is profound and deeply healing. I wish I could share more of it around.”

She added: “I choose that having cancer makes me bigger, not smaller. I choose to celebrate LIFE. Come with me. Dance with me. Walk with me. Let us celebrate together.”
