Although they went onto the show to find lasting love, many of the Married At First Sight stars have walked away with something else – mates for life. The social media accounts of this year’s participants are full of happy snaps of beach reunions, boozy nights out and tales of getting the old gang back together.

Just when you thought you were well and truly done with Married at First Sight 2017, that that period of your life was behind you, along comes some news about Simon and Alene and all the feelings come flooding back.

Don’t worry – they’re still together. And they’re finally able to be so in public after weeks of secrecy. No mean feat for the favourite couple on one of the highest rating programs of the year so far (An average of 1.98 million people watched the finale!).

Speaking to The Courier Mail, the couple said they worked hard to keep their relationship under wraps.

“We especially didn’t want to spoil it for the viewers,” Alene Khatcheri, 31, said. “The most common question we got was ‘Are you still together?’”

Simon and Alene. © Nine Network Simon and Alene. With Alene living in Sydney and Simon in Ipswich, in south east Queensland, they survived almost exclusively on regular phone calls. And they managed to catch up just once, when the show was still on air... to watch the wedding episode, of course.

“It was interesting to see how we started off as complete and utter strangers and continued to grow into a relationship,” Simon McQuillan told The Courier Mail.

At this stage they're happy with the way things are, and neither has plans to move.

“We are enjoying the distance relationship,” Alene told The Daily Telegraph last week.

“The show just finished so we are just trying to learn the ropes. I have a lot to organise in my life and so does Simon so we aren’t planning too far ahead."
