Two angry motorists who attacked each other on the side of the Hume Freeway have been fined for the bizarre incident.

Dragan Sainovic and Stephen James Tyron are both from the western suburbs of Melbourne but don’t know each other.

As they both drove north up the Hume just before Christmas, on December 23, the pair began a cat-and-mouse game in the northbound lanes of the freeway at about 11am.

They stopped their vehicles near the Great Alpine Road, got out of their cars and punched each other.

The fight was witnessed by a family passing by in their car, but it remains unclear who did what to whom during the fight.

Authorities Friday sought public help to find a motorist involved in a road rage attack on the Glenn Anderson 105 Freeway in South Los Angeles that left another driver hospitalized with stab wounds. "He began to punch me, or I thought he was punching me," the victim said.

Driver floors the other motorist with one punch as onlookers rush to the scene. Last month we reported on a bizarre road rage brawl where two drivers armed with a hammer and a traffic cone clashed and chased each other around a roundabout.

Detectives appealed for information from passing drivers in a bid to determine what exactly occurred.

The Wangaratta Magistrates Court recently heard Mr Sainovic had a door slammed on him and that both men ended up on the ground fighting.

Neither man mentioned anything about weapons, but their injuries suggested that both had been stabbed with a knife or sharp object.

It was suggested one man took a knife from the other, then used excessive force once he was disarmed.

The court heard one man had a “rather nasty gashing on his face”.

After the dust up, both men took themselves to separate hospitals. Mr Tyron needed 14 stitches in his left elbow while Mr Sainovic had injuries to his hands, face and chest.

Mr Sainovic reported the incident to Wodonga police and both men denied they were the aggressor.

“There’s conflicting versions of who did what,” Sergeant Mario Eliades told magistrate Stella Stuthridge. “We say they’re both equally liable.”

Ms Stuthridge gasped when shown photographs of the injuries.

Both men were charged with affray and fined over the incident.

Mr Sainovic must complete a community corrections order and Mr Tyron wasplaced on an adjourned undertaking for a year.
