The charge stems from an incident on June 19 on Burgess Parade, Tarro, where a 20-month-old girl was in cardiac arrest.

The toddler suffered significant injuries to her torso, head and internal organs.

The 26-year-old was in a de-facto relationship with the girl's mother and had been living with them for a short time.

The child was taken by NSW Ambulance paramedics to John Hunter Hospital, but later died.
