“Jayla had seen that there was a truck that was oncoming and she chased after him,” she told 9 News Perth’s Scott Cunningham.

“[She’s] actually thrown herself in front of the truck knowing she was going to get hit, and tried to throw him out of the way.”

However the pair were hit and were thrown three metres.

They were rushed to Midland Hospital for treatment, and Jordyn was later taken to Perth Children’s Hospital where he was put into an induced coma due to a fracture to his skull.

He has since woken up, and doctors are still monitoring his condition.

Jayla is also recovering from her injuries.

Ms Scattini said she was blown away by Jordyn’s aunty’s heroics.

“She's definitely our superhero - she's his,” she said.

“She's our guardian angel and without her I don't know where I'd be or where he'd be.”

Ms Scattini also thanked members of the public that stopped to help the two children, and said she didn’t blame the driver.

“Everyone in the community that came out to help, I really appreciate it, because without them, I don't know what we would have done,” she said.

“I just wanted him to know as well that the kids are doing well and it could have happened to anyone in his circumstances too.”
