Olga Edwards, 36, collapsed in shock when she learned her two children, 15-year-old Jack and 13-year-old Jennifer, had been shot dead by their father inside their home in West Pennant Hills, north-west Sydney, at about 5.20pm on Thursday.

'You have a 13-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy, siblings, who've been shot dead in a clearly highly barbaric, frightening manner by their father,' Ms Batty said as she addressed an anti-violence fundraiser in Adelaide.

Nobody could have expected the horrific events that would unfold in those final minutes between an 11- year -old boy and the mentally ill father who loved him, a distraught Rosie Batty said.

The teenagers' father, 68-year-old financial planner John Edwards, murdered the children before turning the gun on himself.

Ms Batty, who's son Luke was tragically murdered by his father Greg Anderson at a cricket practice in Victoria in 2014, urged media and the public not to glorify the incident as 'some weird thing that a loving father has done'.

Mr Edwards had been planning the murder for at least a year, The Daily Telegraph reported.

Police later described the tragic series of events as 'premeditated and planned'.

He had registered for his firearms licence in late 2017, and purchased several guns - including the ones he would ultimately use to execute his own children - shortly thereafter.
