Fyfe makes hasty exit from AFLX tournament Fremantle superstar Nat Fyfe has withdrawn from Thursday night’s AFLX tournament in Adelaide, a mere 15 hours after being named in the Dockers’ 20-man squad. The 2015 Brownlow medallist has been replaced by first-year player Tom North, who was taken at pick No.65 in last year’s draft.Despite Fyfe’s absence, Fremantle have named a relatively strong squad with Michael Walters, Bradley Hill, Tommy Sheridan, Darcy Tucker, Connor Blakely, Cam McCarthy, Ed Langdon, Brady Grey, Cameron Sutcliffe and Brandon Matera all heading to Adelaide.

Wang Wang and Fu Ni are Australasia’s only breeding pair of Giant Pandas . Wang Wang (Net Net) was born on 31 August 2005 and Fu Ni (Lucky Girl) on 23 August 2006 both at Woolong Giant Panda Research Centre, China and moved to Adelaide Zoo together in November 2009.

Based on hormone tests and behavioural observations, the window has now passed during which time Adelaide Zoo ’s Giant Panda Fu Ni would be expected to have given “Although Fu Ni did not give birth this year, we have every hope that she will go on to become a mother in the future,” Elaine said .

Hopes of Adelaide Zoo's giant panda Fu Ni giving birth this year have been dashed.

Keepers have been treating her as if she was pregnant since she was artificially inseminated in September but say the period for when she would have delivered a baby has now passed.

They say hormonal changes and her behaviour suggest Fu Ni has experienced a "pseudo pregnancy".

"During a pseudo pregnancy, hormonal changes and behaviours are identical to those of a true pregnancy, making it very difficult to determine if a Giant Panda is actually pregnant or not," Zoo SA Senior Keeper Jaimee Foote said.

It is Fu Ni and partner Wang Wang's fourth attempt at breeding and the Zoo's Chief Executive Elaine Bensted said they remain hopeful to try again.

Wang Wang and Fu Ni have been at Adelaide Zoo on loan from China since 2009.
