The matriarch of a family bludgeoned to death has wailed and declared her son avenged after their killer Robert Xie was convicted of murder.

Feng Qin Zhu and her husband clutched photos of their family outside court calling for harsh punishment for the "evil murderer" after their son-in-law was found guilty of killing their son Min Lin and four other family members.

"My son has been avenged," she said outside court in Mandarin.

Robert Xie has been found guilty of murdering five members of his family at their Sydney home in 2009. Xie , 53, had pleaded not guilty to bashing to death his brother-in-law Min "Norman" Lin , 45, Lin 's wife Yun Li "Lily" Lin , 43, her sister Yun Bin "Irene" Lin , 39, and the Lins ' two sons Henry, 12, and Terry, 9 at their North Epping home in July 2009. After a six-month trial in the NSW Supreme Court, Xie was found guilty by a majority of 11 jurors.

On the eighth day of deliberations, a NSW Supreme Court jury on Thursday found Xie, 53, used a hammer-like object to inflict horrific head injuries on his newsagent brother-in-law Min Lin, 45; his wife Lily Lin, 43; her sister Irene, 39; and the Lins' two sons, Henry, 12, and Terry, nine at their North Epping home in July, 2009.

But Xie maintained his innocence, while his wife Kathy, Min Lin's sister, broke down in tears.

"I did not murder the Lin family," Xie protested as the jury left the court.

"I am innocent."

The verdicts come after Xie faced four trials and almost five years on remand in jail after the killings.

Two of the trials were aborted and one resulted in a hung jury.

Sentencing submissions are expected on February 10.
