"I broke my leg. It probably sounds bad, but it's a pretty good injury for bull riders. I was out for seven weeks, [and] I got out one screw out last Monday," Mr Boghero said.

"It might sound bad, but it was like getting a splinter out."

For professional bull riders like Mr Boghero, injuries are part of the job.

"It's part of the game. We know we're going to get hurt," he said.

"It's not if we get hurt, it's when it happens and how bad it is."

Despite being up against 50 other riders, the 27-year-old said his only true competitor was the bull.

"If you don't ride the bull, there's no cigar."

And while bull riding can be a painful sport to participate in, Mr Boghero said it was the relationships that brought him back.

"[Rodeo] is like a big family reunion," he said.
