In CCTV footage released by police, the bus with around 20 children on board can be seen pulling out in front of the semi-trailer on the M5 at Hammondville on June 1.

Police said the truck driver was forced to brake heavily to avoid a collision, causing his vehicle to jack knife.

"His actions are certainly worth being praised, he's certainly prevented what could have been [a] very catastrophic incident on the M5," Detective Inspector Dean Johnstone said last week.

No-one was injured in the incident.

Liverpool police today issued the bus driver with a court attendance notice for dangerous and negligent driving.

He is due to appear in Liverpool Local Court on July 19.
